From a friend of mine...

Civility and Democracy

Just this past week, I heard speeches given by proponents of the Scott Walker recall say that the recall petition gathering was the “greatest example of democracy in history” and that because of Gov. Walker’s actions, we need to have representatives that are more “civil”.

If Governor Walker is recalled, then we can look forward to levels of civility and democracy as demonstrated by the recall petitioners and legislators-

- Civility- Someone daily driving by Gov. Walker’s Wauwatosa home honking the horn and yelling “F… You, Walker” out the window
- Civility- While presenting awards to Special Olympics youth participants, Gov. Walker was interrupted by shouts of “Shame” by protesters completely disrupting this special event for these children. Many children left in tears.
- Civility- A protester pouring a beer over the head of Rep. Robin Vos in a public restaurant
- Civility- A recall petitioner harassing people in Green Bay for not signing the petition, then hitting a responding police officer over the head with a cow bell.
- Civility- Publicly boycotting businesses that would not put out “Recall Walker” in front of their businesses.
- Civility- Recall protesters in Madison harassing the small children of Rep. Joel Kleefisch, shouting at the children from close range saying that they should be ashamed of their father.
- Civility- Recall protesters attending school athletic events that Gov. Walker’s children participate in, yelling “Shame” and shouting down his children
- Civility- Cars that have “Scott Walker” bumper stickers routinely being vandalized
- Civility- An Oak Creek driver with a “Support Walker” bumper sticker being chased and run off the road by a truck with a “Recall Walker” bumper sticker.
- Civility- The West Allis office of the Republican Party being vandalized daily with saliva and urine doused windows. Previous to recall efforts, very little vandalism.
- Civility- Protesters occupying, littering and damaging the State Capitol to the tune of $1 Million+
- Civility- While addressing a crowd honoring Dr. Martin Luther King (the icon of peaceful protests) on Martin Luther King Day, Gov. Walker was repeatedly interrupted by protesters shouting “Shame”
- Civility- When a Greendale School Board member was responding to protests on health insurance contributions by a union member in the audience, and the Board member recalled how their personal health care plan did not cover trips and exams at the Mayo Clinic for their young ailing daughter, the union member responded- “Sucks to be you”
- Democracy- Signing recall petitions multiple times, using fake names and bogus addresses
- Democracy- Legislators fleeing the Capitol, shutting down State Government for weeks
- Democracy- Protesters crowding into the Legislative Chambers shouting “Shame” so loud that the Legislative session could no longer be held and had to be adjourned

These are just a few examples of the many that occurred over the last year. If this is the level of civility and democracy shown while NOT in power, are you prepared for what it will be if they ARE in power?? God Help us All!!
