The Gadsden Group Response to the SCOTUS ruling on ObummerCare, as heard on Charlie Sykes today

Over? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Our call to action in the wake of CJ Benedict Roberts Obamacare decision.

----------------------------------------

Okay, obviously the Supreme Court ruling upholding Obamacare was a huge disappointment. But maybe this is what was needed to finally kill it off completely. Let me explain. We learned in Wisconsin how a motivated, determined electorate can overcome the left’s socialist agenda by handing Scott Walker a mandate to continue with his reforms. There is a good chance the energy we experienced here will show up nationwide over the outrageous SCOTUS decision. Obamacare has never been popular with the American public and is despised by many as a socialist onslaught on our freedoms. It is maybe the best example of what inspired the organic Tea Party movement.

Let’s say the mandate was killed, but the rest of Obamacare was allowed to stand. In all likelihood we would have been left with most of the provisions we strongly object to, with no funding mechanism for them. Health care costs would soar and taxes would be raised to pay for them. And the argument over repeal of Obamacare would be harder to make without the mandate in place. Even if Romney wins in November, the national will to overturn Obamacare in its entirety would have been weakened without the mandate. So unless the court overturned it in its entirety we would be stuck with much or most of it.

But with Obamacare fully intact, conservatives and moderates both understand the importance of stopping it in its tracks. We will be energized and motivated to kill it. And the only way to get rid of ALL of it, PERMANENTLY, is through a complete repeal. That requires winning the White House and the Senate in November. The Court has given us all the motivation we need to make that happen. So that is our challenge over the next four months. Do all that we can to make sure people understand the impact of Obamacare and the importance of the November elections.

Congressman Paul Ryan estimates that 80% of this monstrosity (anything fiscal in nature) can be repealed through reconciliation, that is 51 Senate votes. The remaining 20% would require 60 Senate votes (the so called filibuster-proof number, and unlikely in 2012), but this can only happen with Romney in the White House and a Republican Majority in the Senate.

So let’s get to work. Let’s not let up. Let’s make the calls, talk to neighbors and friends and help Mitt and Tommy or whoever win Wisconsin. If we do that, there is a high likelihood Romney will win the White House and the GOP will win the Senate. And then will then be an even greater likelihood we call kill off Obamacare once and for all.

What are you waiting for?
